Precarious Lease

An investigative look into the off-the-grid squatter societies of Paris written by an American writer who briefly joined them. After obtaining a Fulbright to study illegal occupations in Paris, Jacqueline Feldman sought out and was accepted into a Parisian squat called Le Bloc. There she documented the lives of those who preferred to live in semi-legal autonomy from the city government under terms of a "precarious lease"--an occupation of an abandoned or derelict building that is legal until it is contested. When Le Bloc comes under threat, Feldman finds out the golden rule of squatting -- there's always another building that could become a home.
