A moving play about the stalwart endurance of a devoted mother, Amy Herzog's Mary Jane demonstrates the prevailing strength of the human will when fuelled by unconditional love. Mary Jane was premiered at Yale Repertory Theatre, New Haven, Connecticut, in April 2017, and opened Off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop in September 2017. The play won the 2018 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play and was a finalist for the 2017 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
