Understanding Foucault

The French cultural theorist Michel de Certeau tells a story about Michel Foucault being bombarded, at a press conference in Belo Horizonte in Brazil, with questions and criticisms concerning his politics, his beliefs, where he was coming from, and what his works 'really meant' (Certeau 1986: 193).
