About this book

This eye-opening YA narrative nonfiction follows three first-generation college students as they navigate their first year—and ultimately a global pandemic. Making it through the first year of college is tough. What makes it even tougher is being the first in your family to do so. Who can you turn to when you need advice? Rising Class follows three first-generation freshmen, Briani, Conner, and Jacklynn, as they not only experience their first semester of college, but the COVID-19 pandemic that turned their Spring semester upside down. From life in the ivy league to classes at a community college, this nonfiction book follows these students' challenges, successes, and dreams as they tackle their first year of college and juggle responsibilities to their families back home. Eye-opening and poignant, Jennifer Miller writes a narrative nonfiction story that speaks to new beginnings, coming of age, and perseverance.

About Jennifer Miller

From Jennifer Miller: When I became a Mother to identical twin girls in 2005, I began looking for books that would speak to my childrens' unique (however more commonplace) experience of growing up "twin." In addition to the challenges all children face, I knew that my daughters would have the additional challenge of growing up in the face of a society that frankly, may only see one face. Finding very little on the subject at my local library, the idea for my first book began to take shape. I finally put ["Two Snowflakes"][1] to paper in late 2008 and, due to a demand for it (as well as my own impatience), I went about self-publishing it in early 2009. It is now available at [Amazon][2], [Barnes & Noble][3], and [DoubleUpBooks][4]. It has currently sold over 100 copies. However, I am still in search of help with bringing the book to a wider audience. So far, marketing has pretty much been limited to advertising it on [my blog][5], and a few other, mostly twin-related, blogs. If you have any questions, comments, requests, etc., please do feel free to contact me at jmiller@twosnowflakes.net In the meantime, though, I am in the process of finishing my second book, ["Two Princesses!"][6] Look for that early summer 2010.
