A Lady of Consequence

Orphaned and with no knowledge of her past, Madeleine must try to make a way for herself, first as a scullery maid and finally as an actress. Duncan, Lord Risley, is challenged by a bet to try his luck with actress Madeleine Charron when he should be looking for a suitable wife. He takes her to dinner, and discovers strong feelings for this beautiful woman who is so clearly a lady. But how can he contemplate marrying outside his class? Madeleine yearns to be accepted by society, but she is not willing to become any man's chere amie. The burning question is: what is more important love or reputation?
